Dolly Rebecca Parton

Dolly Rebecca Parton was created on January 19, 1946, in Pittman Center (Tennessee). She was born to Avie Lee Parton and Robert Lee Parton in Sevierville. Parton was a housewife and Parton is a farmer of the tobacco. At the age of 12 she was already on Knoxville TV. At 13 she was already recording for a small record label and performing on the Grand Ole Opry. After finishing high school in 1964, she relocated to Nashville to start her country-singing career. Carl Dean, a asphalt-paving business owner, was her first lover. They got married on May 30 in 1966. Porter Wagoner saw her singing and hired her to appear on The Porter Wagoner Show (1961). She was on the show for seven years. Her duets made waves and she was part of Porter Wagoner's band at the Grand Ole Opry. She also sold records and toured. The hit song from her 1970 album "Joshua" hit the top spot at #1, her fame was so great that she was unable to match the fame of his. In 1974, she went alone and recorded duets with his. She separated from him to be a singer-songwriter on her own in 1974. Dolly gained immense popularity as a songwriter/singer. Dolly has won numerous Country Music Association awards (1968, 1970, 1971, 1975, and 1976). The petite (5'0") beauty was a natural at television, and by the mid-1970s she began appearing regularly on television specials and talk programs before she got her own, Dolly (1976). Dolly won her first Grammy award in 1977 for Best Female Country Vocal Performance. Dolly's first movie appearance was in 9-to-5 (1980), where she won an Oscar nomination for the title of her song and Grammy awards 2 and 3. Also, she won Grammy awards 2 and 3, Best Country Song and Best Female Country Vocal Performance, for the track "Nine to Five." The movie gained her more recognition for performing in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1982) as well as in Rhinestone (1984) with the hit song "Tennessee Homesick Blues". Dolly Parton Enterprises is her media empire, worth $100 million. In 1986, she created Dollywood which is a Tennessee theme park located in Pigeon Forge. This was to honor her Smoky Mountain childhood. She appeared in the Dolly (1987 television series) as her character. She was awarded another Grammy in 1988 for the Best Country Performance Duo/Group with Vocals for "Trio".
